Illinois runs two separate cannabis programs. The medical program requires a state-issued patient card. The adult-use, or “recreational,” program does not. As the state’s Cannabis Regulatory Oversight Office puts it on the official Illinois cannabis site, adults 21 and older with a valid identification can purchase cannabis at any Illinois dispensary.
That is the whole gate. No doctor’s letter, no registration, no waiting period. If you are 21 with an ID that scans, you can shop. Out-of-state visitors are limited to half of each of those amounts.

4. Our hours — and the quietest times to stop in
We are open seven days a week:

- From East Peoria: IL-29 south, about 12 minutes.
- From Morton: IL-98 west or Broadway, roughly 15 minutes.
- From Washington: IL-8 west to IL-29 south, about 20 minutes.
