If you are looking for a dispensary near Mackinaw, IL, the short answer is that there isn’t one in the village — and the closest locally owned shop is about 14 miles west on Illinois Route 9. That’s Pekin’s Local Dispensary & Supply at 359 Court St in downtown Pekin, open daily from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM. We’re not a chain and we’re not a franchise. We’re one store on one corner, run by people who live here.
Mackinaw folks have been making the drive down Route 9 since we opened, so we put together the things worth knowing before you do: the route, the parking, the ID rules, the state limits, and how to get your order home legally. Seven tips, start to finish.

1. The Closest Locally Owned Dispensary Near Mackinaw, IL Is 14 Miles West on Route 9
From the middle of Mackinaw, take Illinois Route 9 west. You’ll roll through farm ground, past Tremont, and into Pekin in a little under 20 minutes on a normal day. Route 9 carries you most of the way in — then follow the signs toward the downtown square.
We’re at 359 Court St, directly across from the Tazewell County Courthouse. If you can find the courthouse, you’ve found us. Most Mackinaw customers tell us the drive runs 20 to 25 minutes door to door, which is about the same as running into Morton for groceries.
2. Parking on the Square Is the Easy Part
There’s free street parking along Court Street and on the side streets around the square, plus public lots within a block of our door. No garage, no ticket machine, no app. Weekday mornings and mid-afternoons are the quietest stretches if you’d rather not wait.
Our entrance is at street level. Come in, show your ID at the front, and a budtender will walk you through the menu at whatever pace you want — whether this is your fifth visit or your first.
3. Bring a Real ID, Every Single Visit
You must be 21 or older with a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID to come through the door. Not a photo of your license on your phone. Not an expired one. The physical card, every time, even if we know you by name — Illinois requires the check on every visit, no exceptions.
An Illinois driver’s license or state ID works, and so does a passport, a military ID, or an out-of-state license. If you want the full rundown before you drive over, we wrote one: what ID you need at an Illinois dispensary.
4. Know the Illinois Purchase Limits Before You Shop
Illinois caps how much an adult 21+ may possess at one time, and the cap depends on residency. Per the Illinois Cannabis Regulation Program FAQ, Illinois residents over 21 may possess 60 grams of flower (roughly 2 ounces), 1,000 milligrams of THC in an infused product, and 10 grams of concentrate. Non-residents over 21 are held to half of each: 30 grams, 500 milligrams, and 5 grams.
Those totals are cumulative across categories, so a mixed basket counts against each limit separately. Our register enforces it automatically, but it helps to know the numbers before you build your order. We break them down further in our guide to Illinois purchase limits.
5. Get It Home the Legal Way
The drive back to Mackinaw matters as much as the drive down. Under Illinois law, anything you buy has to ride in a secured, sealed, odor-proof container in its original packaging while the vehicle is moving — not in the console, not in a pocket, not open on the seat. Doing it any other way is a Class A misdemeanor.
Nobody may use cannabis in a vehicle, driver or passenger, and none of it may cross state lines. We bag every order in a compliant exit bag before you leave, so the only thing left to do is put it somewhere secure for the ride up Route 9. Once you’re home, our notes on keeping it fresh will save you money over the long run.
6. Check the Menu Before You Leave Mackinaw
Fourteen miles is far enough that you don’t want to guess, and since the nearest dispensary near Mackinaw, IL is a drive rather than a walk, it pays to look first. Our live menu updates as inventory moves, so you can see what’s actually on the shelf before you turn the key — browse flower, pre-rolls, vapes, edibles, and concentrates, or shop the full menu and place an order for pickup.
Our weekly deals page is worth a look on the way out the door too. Specials rotate, and the ones worth driving for don’t sit around long.
7. Local Rewards Pays You Back for the Drive
Pekin’s Local Rewards is free to join and it’s the program we actually built for people coming in from out of town. You earn 8 points for every $1 you spend before tax, in-store or online. Every 1,000 points is $5 off, in $5 steps, up to $40 off at 8,000 points — with a minimum purchase of double your reward, so $10 buys the $5 rung.
Joining gets you up to 1,000 bonus points: 500 the moment you sign up free, and 500 more for joining the text list. From there you climb — Marigold at 3,000 points earns 10 points per dollar, and Court Street at 8,000 points earns 12. Members also earn double during Happy Hour, Wednesday through Sunday, 11 AM to 1 PM and 4 PM to 6 PM, plus all day Monday on flower and pre-rolls and all day Tuesday on extracts and edibles. One 2× at a time — they don’t stack. Full terms live on our Local Rewards page. Rewards are dollars off retail purchases, never product at no cost. Veterans, seniors, and birthdays — just ask at the counter.
Mackinaw Handed Pekin the County Seat in 1831
Here’s a piece of history most people around here have forgotten. Mackinaw was founded in 1827 by George Washington Minier and Charles E. Boyer, and it was the first county seat of Tazewell County. The village built a courthouse for $125 and held the seat until 1831, when it moved down the road to Pekin. The village takes its name from the Mackinaw River, which comes from the Ojibwe word mikinaak — “turtle.”
We think about that more than you’d expect, because our top rewards tier is named Court Street after the corner we sit on, across from the courthouse that Mackinaw started. Roughly 1,879 people called the village home at the 2020 census, and it remains part of the Peoria metro alongside the rest of Tazewell County. You can read more about the village at the Village of Mackinaw. We serve the whole county — here’s our Tazewell County dispensary guide if you want the wider picture.
